The Imaging Source attended this year's AOI Forum & Show on October 3, 2019. Organized by the Automatic Optical Inspection Equipment Association (AOIEA) and held at the National Chiao Tung University, the annual event attracts system integrators, component suppliers and academic researchers. The new 5.1 MP polarization cameras were a demonstration highlight, attracting many visitors to the booth.
The Polarsens™ global-shutter CMOS image sensors make use of intrinsic polarization properties to visualize, for example, material stress and surface scratches. At the booth, the sensor's on-chip, multi-directional filters (0°, 45°, 90°, 135°) were able to visualize material stress in a transparent plastic object via AoLP processing and HSV color mapping. Available as a USB 3.0 (max. 75 fps) or GigE (max. 24 fps) interface, the new camera models visualize material stress and surface scratches as well as reduce glare, improve edge detection or enhance contrast in low-contrast materials.
